I brought along my son to shoot some video for us. Someday, when I get my act together, I will put together a slideshow that include live clips.

Oh my goodness, I couldn't believe how unbelievably adorable this sweet little baby was! I could have photographed her all day long. Her parents called me the baby
whisperer and threatened that they will call me at 2:00 in the morning when sleep deprivation kicks in. I told them to go for it!!!

But I am not a baby whisperer. I have but one trick that babies just can't resist. Stand up and hold the baby very tight and close to you. Straighted your back and bounce up and down bending the knees while making the shhh shhh noise very close to the baby's ear.

Poor baby. They just can't help but fall asleep...

And here is Anna again at 4 months. I just love her sweet little smile... it makes my heart just melt.

We photographed Alex's sister, Sydney, 3 years ago (she was our first session after Nomi was born... but that is a different story...) and when Alex called about getting her senior portraits done, I was so excited to see her again. She even braved the trek from Washington for the session, and man did we have way too much fun.

Being that American Sign Language was my first major in collage (before I defected to photography), it has always had a special place in heart. When Alex told me that she has learned a bit of ASL, I immediatly thought of the pose below.... probably one of my favs from the day.

Because Ana was 8 weeks early and spend a bit of time in the NICU, we decieded to do her 1st portrait session at her house and I am so glad we did!! They have the cutest house with amazing natural light, even while it was raining. I was a bit worried that Ana, at around 5 weeks, might not cooperate as much as a newborn but I was so wrong and was happy to be wrong. She was so easy and so sweet and I couldn't believe how sleepy she was; I could have photographed her all day.

What a great outdoor session in Oregon in the middle of fall day when we can get a couple of hours in without any rain, and that was the case with this session. Mud, yes. Rain, no. And this senior is totally gorgeous and was so easy to photograph. The image with her by the leaves is my total favorite. It is just so different and a little bit mysterious.

Megan - Senior Portraits Newberg

When Megan suggested an old abandoned house as a location for her senior portraits, I just knew that this session was going to be totally fun and different. The house totally rocked but it was covered in spiders and I hate spiders. My hate of spiders is somewhat irrational and at some point during the session, I started screaming like a crazy photographer. I really can't handle it if a spider touches me.
So random comment here: I totally think that Megan looks like Megan Fox, the actress on Tranformers. What do you think?

I have been photographing these two little girls for around the past 4 years and I just love them to pieces. I am sure their mom is so tired of me telling her how much I adore her girls. Jada is such a sweet older sister has grown into such a gorgeous young lady. I still can't believe that she is in the 5th grade this year. Jasmine is so funny and silly and she always makes my heart smile. If there was American's Next Top model for children, she would win.
I know it will be a delightful day when I get to photograph these two sisters.

Kyra lives in the coolest house ever, which is where most of these images created. On her property is a very cool barn that houses horses. Surrounding that very cool barn is an amazingly worn fence that supported beautiful light and wonderful leading lines. Connected to that fence was an electrical wire. A thrillingly dynamic wire that electrocuted both Kyra and my assistant Carol... poor Carol, she was electrocuted twice!!

You might recognize Brock. We photographed his family last year, right before he left for Europe. His whole family is way cool and totally funny. If I could, I would adopt myself into their family.

I met Bethany a few years ago as her mom is a teacher at my kids' elementry school and then later my son's 4th grade teacher. I couldn't believe it when she emailed me
last year asking if she could be a senior rep for the following year. I couldn't believe that her senior year was coming up and now its here and she's now a bona fide rep.

I just loved the light we had that day making Bethany's blue eyes totally light up. She is so beautiful and so sweet and a ton of fun to photograph.

I know, some of you must be falling out of your seats. 4 posts in one week!! Well, I totally forgot how productive I am when ALL the kids are in school. This past month has been a bit bitter sweet. Not only did Nomi turn the big 3, she is now old enough to attend preschool (gasp & sniff). Well, 2 days a week, for 3 hours a day, Nomi is at school, which leaves me with a bit of extra time to get some serious work done. Wooo Hooo!!!

The O'Halloran Girls - Oregon Beach Portraits

My assistant, Carol, has three of the most beautiful girls in all the land. When we made plans to do a couple of back to back sessions at the beach, we of course brought the girls along. Can you believe how gorgeous all three of them are?!?! And a ton of fun to photograph. We made a 20x24 of the group image for Carol. I so can't wait for it to come back from the lab!!!

Being that Leah is still in high school, we took a couple extras of her just in case she wanted any extras for wallets... which she did.

We've Moved!

I know, I know. I'm crazy. But it is true. We moved the studio... again! We are now located at 1505 Portland Rd. Suite 206 and we love it!!

Everyone asks why we moved. Did something bad happen? Is the economy affecting us? Did Danielle (the photographer I share the studio with) and I have a falling out? No, nothing that dramatic. So here's the lowdown. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Danielle and I both realized that we really didn't need that much space. The location of the building totally rocked but we were just not using all the space. But we were paying for all the square footage none the less. When the light bulb went off for us, we decided it was time to move... so we did!

We are going to miss the gallery feel of our old space. And the display windows could not be beat. And man did the location rock! But we are totally not going to miss the not-so-pretty carpet, which totally clashed with the boutique look we are going for.

So our new place is beautiful! It has gorgeous wood floors, beautiful window light, and it is the perfect size for the perfect price. Yay!

And the best part of all, we are right next to Nikki Jane's Boutique! They have the cutest stuff in there... I am so in trouble!!

So in fair warning, someday I might move the studio back home...probably when Nomi is in 1st grade or higher. By then, she will be old enough to realize that crying during consultations is usually not a good idea.

My dream would be to take over the whole house and move my family to a different house... I wonder if they would go for that...

Nomi's Day

I love free days and I especially love free Fridays. So today, I was going to spend the whole day with Nomi, doing all the things she loved to do and throw in a few errands that I needed to do.

So first, we went to the post office and mailed off an order to a client in Florida. I love the Newberg Post Office. The folks there are so helpful and so cool. Nomi loves going there because she get to turn on the charm, go "on stage" and be as cute as can be, which is exactly what she did while we were there.

Next we went to the Union Block Marketplace on W. 2nd Street, here in Newberg. OK, so as a photographer, I can so get in trouble in there!!! There was just too much cool stuff. I could totally use everything in there as super cool props. And yes, I did buy the blue couch because it rocked and now I can't wait to use it!!

After that, we went to Critter Cabana (www.crittercabana.com/), only the coolest pet shop in Newberg. Nomi had a blast. She just LOVES the fish. All of them are now named Nemo, Gil, or Sharkbait. She thought the hamsters were hilarious and her laugh was totally contagious as she watched them run in their hamster wheels. The birds were a fascination. She loved it when they chirped and when they "kissed". But alas, it was while we were there when I really took notice to her little cough.

Our next stop, Coffee Cottage. Everybody knows Nomi's name there... it could be because we go there way too often. And once again, she turned on the charm. After I ordered Nomi's favorite, a chocolate cookie and blue berry smoothie, we sat down. Even though Nomi did drink most of her smoothie, she barely touched her cookie and I could see her go down hill from there. Her eyes got red and her poor little nose started to run. One minute, she looked like she was having the perfect day and the next, she looked like she was just hit with a nasty case of the flu. I guess it was time to call it a day. By the time we did get home, she had a fever. Poor Nomi! Its funny how this cold just hit her like a ton of bricks!

That is OK because we still had a ton of fun and it was almost the perfect day.

Ashlee - Newberg Senior Portraits

Ashlee has got to be one of the most beautiful girls we have ever photographed. And so sweet too. We had so much fun on this session. The wind was blowing so hard, I just knew it was going to pick Ashlee up and blow her away, kinda like Mary Poppins.

I got to hang out with Ashlee over the weekend, which was so cool and totally fun. We photographed her family on our Beach Portrait Safari. Ashlee's whole family is beautiful. My assistant, Carol, spoke my thoughts when she made the comment that they all could be a "model family" because they were all so beautiful. Someday soon, I shall post images from their session so you can see what I mean.

On a side note, the Beach Portrait Safari was a blast. We got to photograph some of my favorite families and I loved every minute of it. Even though I got sunburned pretty bad. Just the lower part of my arms & hands and a bit of my neck though. I thought about taking a quick picture and posting it but I didn't want to scare any children...

OK, I admit it. I am so very behind in my blog posts. And yes, its true. I am very lame. My apologies to Daniel for making him wait so long for this post.

I will always remember this session as the day I did a perfect parallel park. Yes, it is true. I suck at parallel parking. But not that day.

This day, we went to Downtown Portland, which is one of my favorite locations because I could go there 100 times and get 100 completely different sessions.

Daniel is one of the coolest people we photographed this year. He is so funny and kept us all laughing even though it was freezing that day. But at the same time, he seemed so much more mature than 18. He loves the Lord, his country, and his family and he left a wonderful impression on me.

This is Daniel's sister, Britany. We photographed her senior portraits a couple of years ago. She is so beautiful, I wanted to post a few of hers too.

Meet Tanner

But less than 1% of the budget of the National Institute of Health is devoted to Autism research. I didn’t know this either.

Meet my sweet little friend Tanner! He was diagnosed with Autism at 18 months. He is non-verbal and has medical issues associated with Autism but today he is healing and starting to say words. Autism Speaks has helped Tanner in finding Doctors and therapists, play groups and support groups for him and his Mom.

Girls Night Out

We had so much fun at Girls Night Out! More people came than I ever hoped and we were able to raise almost $150 for Love Inc from just raffle sales alone!!

Here is a pic of the gift bags which were packed with all kinds of goodies. They looked so flippin' cute, that I had to take a pic to show.

I also took some pics of each vendor's table. They had so much cool stuff that I could not resist!

Anyone who knows Nomi, knows she is a total choco-holic. The girls at Mode du Jour Day Spa & Salon gave her a couple of pieces of chocolate from this jar. She took those pieces, said a quick thank-you, ran off and hid in a corner and ate them! She is so weird! She is also two years old, but so weird....

I totally wish that is me here because by the end of the evening, a massage looked so good!

I had so much fun on this session!! This senior has a great name! And so does her mom, which happens to be the same name as my assistant, Carol. So picture this: every time mom Carol or my Carol would say Rachel, both Rachels would respond and every time I would ask my Carol to do something: hold a reflector, fix hair, grab the camera bag, mom Carol would try to do it. We all just laughed and laughed at our silliness (and our confusion!).

I Survived!

Yay! I survived WPPI and I didn't die from a brain overload! I learned so much that I barely know where to begin to implement. When I came home, I was faced with a ton of emails. Luckily about half of them are stuff that I can delete, but the other half will take a little while to answer. If you did email me, please know that I did not drop off the face of the planet (unless you count going to Las Vegas), and I am answering emails as fast as I can....

Am I Crazy?

I think I am. Right now I am sitting in a terminal at PDX waiting for a flight to take me to Las Vegas for the WPPI convention. It is going to be a ton of fun, but I have to admit, I'm home sick already.

I am going to be gone for 6 days and that just seems like forever to me. I have never been away from my family for that long before. But this trip will be very good for me and the company. A ton of amazing photographers will be there. Many of them are my mentors and my "American Idols". I can't wait, but boy am I going to miss my babies and my adorable husband.

Gotta run. We're boarding!

The Cutest Family ever!

Can you get any cuter than this family. And so much fun to photograph! They were so up for any crazy idea that I had. More often than not, little kids will ask, "take a picture of me doing this!" I love it when they ask because kids will come up with the craziest ideas. These boys had the cutest ideas. I just love them! I even let them take a few shots of each other using my "big camera". We might have some budding photographers here...

Engagement Portraits? Rachel? Yep, I did. I was a little nervous to post these. We get enough wedding inquires as it is and I didn't want to encourage any more. The thought of photographing a wedding makes me break out in a cold sweat and then I find myself rocking back and forth in a corner somewhere. But this is my Lindsey. She is sooooo cool so when she asked if we would create her engagement portraits (just the engagement, not the wedding), I of course said yes.

As a side note, I have to admit, I am so lame. I am so behind in blog posts. From the look of the blog, we are just sitting here twitteling our thumbs. On the contrary, we have been steadily busy and very blessed. The economy hasn't affected us much (knock on wood). So if the blog seems pretty dead to you, I am dreadfully sorry. It is only because I am lame and because we are trying to make sure all of our orders are on time.

Meals 4 Haiti

I know we have all been affected in some way by the earthquake tragedy in Haiti. Our hearts are saddened and yet the outpouring of help from all over the world, I'm sure, has brought hope and healing to the victims.

Wall Portrait Sale

For the past 5 years, we have been so good about sending Christmas cards and a family newsletter. They were a ton of fun to make and folks seemed to really like them. And I love to read them years later.

Well....

It is already January 20th and I am thinking that sending out cards this year is just not going to happen. I am totally bummed. But let me tell you why. Maybe a good chuckle is what will make this all better...

So I had squeezed in a day a week before Christmas. It was the perfect day. I was going to create the portraits of the kids to put onto the cards. Nomi was in a very good mood that day and I had forewarned Adria and Jarom of the plan. But then, something very bad happened. Nomi got a hold of a washable black crayola marker... you know, the kind that washes off the skin after 3 days or so.

My cute little baby drew all over her face, but mostly her lips and right eye. She looked like a little goth baby. It was actually quite funny. When she looked in the mirror though, she cried and tried to clean it off. She is just too funny.

I was kinda bummed. So I squeezed in another day after Christmas. It is family tradition to send the cards after Christmas anyways...

Then is happened again!!!! Where in the world does she find all these markers!!! I took it as a sign. No more markers are allowed in the house. And no Christmas card this year. It just wasn't meant to be and I am now OK with that. My only regret is: I couldn't find our point and shoot to take a pic of Nomi in her "goth mode". Arrggg!

I wanted to share the beautiful artwork my Nomi drew on the entry way wall with a beautiful red Sharpie. She is just so lucky that she is cute!

And look how gifted she is! As early as 2 years old, she knew how to color within the lines! Oh Bliss!

Why should the walls get all the artwork? Why not the wood floor too!

Luckily, we are going to paint the entry way and bench soon. But alas, the floor will forever be red. That's OK. It will serve as a reminder that Sharpies should never be within a Nomi's reach!

The Mattocks Family

Somehow, we have been very blessed. We only photograph super cool families, and this family definitely falls under the super cool category. The funniest thing happened at this session though. While we were unloading the couch to photograph the family on it in the field, some Newberg city workers "caught us" while they were driving by. Their thoughts we written all over their face. In broad daylight, we had the nerve to dump this couch in the middle of the field. I let them know we were using the couch for a portrait session, not dumping. They drove away, shaking their heads, convinced that I am a total lunatic. Well, maybe they are right...

Why is everyone laughing, you ask. That is because whenever I would call the dog's name, she would look in the complete opposite direction. I would meow, whistle, squeak my toy, and still she looked in opposite direction. It really was the funniest thing ever.

BIG News!!

OK, so we have a couple of very big and exciting news to announce:

The first one: After 30 years, I have finally stopped biting my nails! OK, so that isn't super big or earth shattering, but it kinda sorta is for me. Whenever I brainstormed, watched TV, or get to the exciting part in a book, I would start biting. Uuggg! When I caught my little Nomi picking up on the bad habit, I knew I needed to quit and so I did. The only bad thing: I keep accidently scratching everything in my path. I don't mean to, I am just not used to nails. I even drew blood on my arm two weeks ago... what a dork I am!

The second one (and this is a big one): I know I must be crazy but I have decided to go for it. An opportunity arose to share a retail location with another photographer in town and I decided to jump on it. I know I am crazy but I am so excited!! So, if you are wondering why I have been a bit slower than usual at returning emails and phone calls, this is why and I am so very very sorry. We are moving this weekend and I totally can't wait! I will post pictures of the new place as soon as everything is settled. Plus I will put more detailed info in my upcoming newsletter. Also, people keep asking when I will be having an Open House / Grand Opening.... well, I guess I should. I'll keep you posted as soon as I figure it out....

I am sooo bad! I haven't made a post in so long. I think it has been over a month!!!! I know, I'm a total dork! July was a very busy month with both Who's on Third (Turkey Rama) and Newberg Old Fashion Festival. Both events were crazy fun and we got to meet a ton of new people and visit with some very dear friends.
When August hit, the senior season came into full swing and to spice things up a bit, we took a trip to Utah to attend my little brother's graduation from BYU. It was just me and my lil' sis and 5 crazy kids on this trip. Somehow we got there and back safe and sound. My cute little bro is now working on his Masters. He's so cool.

OK, so a few weeks ago, we got to photograph Joanne and she is like crazy gorgeous. And the best part is that she is so very sweet too. We selected these 4 for her Facebook page and I can't wait to see them on there!

Soooo, as many of you know, I am on the Newberg Old Fashion Days Festival committee, "in charge" of the fireworks. Part of my job is to help find and coordinate volunteers.

Sooooo, if you are over 18 years of age, would love to wear a very fashionable orange vest and badge to match, have the best seat in the house, and think the idea of tackling people who try to cross into the "no trespass" zone would be way cool, then give us a call. Pride and Prejudice

I first discovered the "Pride and Prejudice" BBC miniseries around 8 years ago when my dear Aunt Margaret popped over for a visit and brought with her a treasure in the form of VHS tapes (remember those??). In six short hours, Mr. Darcy (a.k.a. Colin Firth) went from "an okay looking inconsequential snob" to "so sexy I would marry him!!!" I was hooked - and not just on Mr. Darcy. I would be forevermore an ardent lover of the film.

OK, so as most of you know, I am a bit of a Pride and Prejudice nut. LOVE the book. LOVE the movie. If you have ever done a portrait session with me, about half the time, I end up talking about P&P. Whenever someone says they have not seen the movie, I always say, "OMGosh, we have to watch it someday!". Well, someday has finally come!!

On July 15th, at 11:00 am, we are going to watch the 6 hour (I know, its long...) A&E version of Pride and Prejudice!!

School is Out!

Yay! I love Summer vacation!! I love being able to sleep in till around 7:00 or so. I love the break we get from the rain. And most of all, I love all the time I get to hang out with the kids. We have a couple of fun things planned for the summer, but the big one will be our trip to Utah for my little brother's graduation from BYU. Of course, the beach is on the calendar along with some other "close to home" activities: the zoo, the library, Oaks Park, etc. What cool things are you planning for summer vacation?

Miss Sarah - Senior Newberg

So one day, I had this brilliant idea!! How about putting some of my HS Senior portraits on the blog!! Great idea huh! Especially since about 50% of what we do is HS Seniors. We usually put our seniors on our MySpace page, but why not here too?

So this beautiful young woman just graduated last night (Congrats Sarah!!!!). How cool is that! I am always so excited for my seniors when they enter the next chapter of their lives.

I totally love this girl. She was such a good sport during her portrait session. She was totally cool about anything I suggested... despite the fact that it must have been 30 degrees outside! In between chattering teeth and shivers, she was able to totally fake it and pretend that she was in Hawaii. Luv her!

Nomi's Day

OK, I know I posted a ton of portraits of Nomi just a couple of weeks ago, but I just couldn't resist!!. She is so flippin' cute! While on a photography "field trip" with Carol, we used Nomi as our model to play around and have some fun. At first she loved all the attention but then she started to get bored. Then all of a sudden, a bus full of kids very slowly drove by. Nomi's new thing is to wave to every passing car she sees and boy did she wave (hence the images of her waving)! The best part was that the kids waved back. Nomi was in heaven!

Hi Ya'll!

Just wanted to let everyone know of a super cool event coming up tomorrow called the Joan Austin Community Festival. It is going to be a great event with a ton of cool activities. From helicopter rides, live entertainment, face painting, classic car show, and so much more. There will even be a 5K run starting at 8:30 am the will benefit Austin's Relay for Life team! Who says you can't have a pet in a business portrait? Maybe no one has actually said that but if they ever did....
This little pup was so funny! I have photographed many dogs and their people and have used lots of different tricks to get them to "smile". But this little guy was not impressed by all my efforts until I realized that his mommy had already told me how to get his attention. Duh! All we had to do is mention his grandma's name and he perked right up! How cute is that?!?!

At the Hospital Part III

Yay!!! Nomi just came out of surgery and everything went wonderfully. She is sleeping right now and she looks absolutely beautiful. All the nurses in the post-op room thought she was the cutest baby ever. Wayne and I just have to agree with that sentiment.
There was a strong possibility of a different, longer, and more extensive procedure but it was not needed and now her hospital stay will only be around a week instead of two weeks. Yay!!! You have no idea how happy we were over that bit of news!
Thank-you everyone for all your prayers. They have been a great blessing for our family and especially for Naomi.

At the Hospital Part II

Nomi is currently with the physicians having her procedure done and Wayne and I are in the waiting room surprisingly calm.
When the anesthesiologist gave her "something" to relax her, I have to admit, we laughed a little bit. She was so loopy and silly. She could barely hold up her head. I just wanted to hold her and hug her because she was being so cute... and funny!
So far the updates that have come back have been good. She is sleeping well and everything is going as planned.
Can't wait till she wakes so I can hold her tight and get one of her famous "Nomi hugs".

At the Hospital

After weeks of preparation, we finally arrived at the hospital today for Naomi's procedure. When we got here, Nomi was all charm and being very silly, but then, 1:30 PM hit... naptime. And it all went downhill from there.
After getting poked with a IV and having a tube inserted down her nose she was not a happy camper. By the time Wayne arrived, she had screamed for so long she fell asleep out of pure exhaustion. Luckily, the nose tube will only be in for a total of four hours, so we now only have 2 1/2 hours left...
Needing a break, I grapped my laptop and headed for a place where I can check my email, update the blog, and cruise the web for a little while. Stay tuned, tomorrow is the procedure and I will update everyone on how that goes...

The Beach

Over spring break, I took the kids to the beach for some R&R and shopping! We had a great time, even though it rained most of the day and halfway through, I had to replace two tires on my car. I. of course, brought along the camera and seriously, someone should put a limit on how many adorable portraits I am allowed to take of my Nomi. She is just sooooo flippin' cute. How can I resist? My older two kids are so "done" having their portraits created that it took some costly bribery to get them to cooperate! My nephew, who is now living with us, was totally excited to have his portraits created, so I at least had someone on my side...

This family is so cool. These two boys are so sweet and inquisitive. I loved answering all their questions. I think my favorite part of this session though was when the two dogs ran down the hill and right into the mud! I am not sure if mom and dad thought it was funny, but they got cleaned off and in the end, everything was OK.

Competition Images

I have finally posted the comp images!! Yeh!!

This Image is called: Back Alley Moods. It scored a 78, which is pretty good. It was also selected for exhibition but all of my images were selected for exhibition, so that was pretty cool too.

The second is called: The Horse and His Girl. It scored a 79. Even better score. This was my highest scoring image. A judge also selected this image to discuss during the judges lunch. She didn't like the name of the image. She thought that if I chose a better name, it might have scored better. Good to know...

The third is called: Before the show. This image got a lot of attention. A few of the judges wanted it to score higher than the final 78, but the other judges didn't feel it. That's ok. It still got a judges choice award.

The fourth is called: Wake Me Up Inside. This one also got a lot of attention. Since I was going for the more raw and edgy images, I knew that some if the judges would love it and others would not. I was totally excited that three out of 4 of my images were discussed and 2 of those were challenged!! One said if I tweeked this image here and there, it could probably score between 85-90 (that is a totally awesome score). It was very exciting.

On a side note, anyone who knows me pretty well knows that I love the band Evanescence. Wake Me Up Inside is a line from one of their songs. All of the judges on the panel were 40 and older, except for maybe one, so I totally didn't think any of them would get the title (I just didn't think they were THAT kind of cool). Well, I was wrong!! One of the "older" judges knew were the name came from (maybe someone really cool told him but I'd like to think that maybe he is a closet fan), said he got it but thought that maybe our "older" panel of judges would not. I knew that they probably wouldn't get the song part, but in my heart, there was no other title.

On a last note, one of the judges suggested that I make a few changes to my images and then enter them at nationals.... hmmmmm.

Wow! I just got back from Professional Photographers of Oregon annual convention and had a blast!! I learned so much about keeping our business skills sharp, fun and super cool photoshop techniques, and different design tips. WOW! I think I had a brain overload and had to take a couple of days to digest everything. I really can't wait to start implementing everything I learned!

Also, before I forget, this year, like every year I entered 4 images into print competition. This year, I wanted to take a few risks with my image choices. Break a few rules and get the judges talking and maybe even thinking. I didn't want to enter the same old stuff that merits every year but something cool, modern, and funk-ay! A couple of the judges got me and a couple didn't. There was even a judge who fought for two of my images arguing why they should merit. Even though my images scored very well, alas, none had recieved the award of a merit. BUT, I got the judges talking and I was totally excited about that!!!! Oh, and one of my images did get a judges choice award. That was totally cool.

I will post all the images that I entered very soon. It will be the next post. Promise!

Andy Meinert

Being a photographer is really the best job in the world. At least for me it is. Photographers have the wonderful opportunity to capture life’s most precious moments. Tiny sleepy babies with their sweet tiny toes to expressive toddlers and their accompanying many moods. Preschoolers and tweenies and then on to HS Seniors on their way to independence and adulthood. And then it starts all over again with the next generation. Brothers and sisters. Mothers and fathers. Daughters and sons. Families. Love and the beauty it brings.

Being invited to share in some of these intimate moments is in many ways, very sacred to me. Each portrait session is very important for our grandchildren, our great grandchildren, and so forth. I always thought I new how important a photographer’s work is. I think now, maybe I have only scratched the surface in beginning to truly understand that importance and how much portraits can help comfort, soothe, and heal.

In September of 08, I had the opportunity to sit down with a young man named Andrew Meinert and his mom Anne to discuss his upcoming senior portrait session. He told me that he loved to play tennis and played for the High School. A team mate later told me he was the best on the team. He also said he loved the outdoors, to hunt, fish, and go hiking. His mom, Anne told me that he loves his dog, Trooper, and his cat, Joey. “Andrew is going to college”, she answered when I asked what his after high school plans were. University of Oregon was his choice and to study radiation therapy was his goal. The military also fit in there somewhere. Andy heard the Air Force and the need to defend our great country calling. I always ask kids to discribe to me a picture of themselves that they like. Andy discribed to me an image we had done the year before. He liked his hair. It was long back then.

In Mid October, we went forth with the planned portrait session. We smiled, laughed, and joked and had a good time. Trooper came along and even he managed to “smile” for the camera. I found it rather compelling that Andy never complained at all even though I found out weeks later than the session was quite painful and exhausting for him. Because you see, Andy had a rare form of cancer called glioblastoma multiforme. To me, it was a miracle that we were able to create those portraits when we did. Just a few weeks after the session, Andy could no longer walk.

In the following weeks, I, along with all of Newberg, got to witness a coming together in support of the Meinert family. From “Andy night” at Jem 100 to the ubiquitous yellow bracelets bareing his name. Talent shows, trust funds, and even T-shirts were dedicated to Andy. Though I do not know all that was done in Andy’s name, it is the “senior project” that touched me the most. Three of Andy’s buddies: Alex Lilley, Riley Sump, and Kyle Kosters kind of adopted the Meinerts. I am sure I will never know all the tiny acts of kindness those three boys did, but I do know that they were a comfort to a family in need.

On December 30th around 7:45 PM, Andrew lost his battle with cancer. He passed away at home with his family at his side. Andrew was an incredible young man and a talented athlete. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Andrew’s life will be held on February 14th at 2:00 PM in the Baumann Auditorium at George Fox University.

Wow!! This whole week has been amazing!! I love snow and it always put me in merry spirits because I know that Christmas is just around the corner. The kids have had the whole week off and my husband worked from home 4 out of 5 days. Today we got at least 4 inches of snow and it is just beautiful - so light and fluffy and so much fun to play in. I can't help but smile everytime I look out the window. If it is snowing where you are - have fun and be a kid. Play in it, make snow angles, have a snow ball fight, and take lots of pictures!!!

Look! You would be so proud of me! I have put in two posts in one week!

This is the P Family and they are totally cool! Their kids are just the cutest ever! The older boy is so sweet and very social. He had so much to say and he was so entertaining. The younger boy seemed to love trains so we couldn't have been at a more perfect spot. He seemed to be completely fascinated by them. His smiles are so adorable and heart melting. Naomi liked him so much, she was quiet the whole session which is very rare.

I know, I am so bad. It seems I only post about once a month. With the cute little baby and running the studio, things get pretty busy around here. Not to mention my two very sweet older children, my beloved husband, and everything else that is involved in running a house.

This is the T family and their two girls are just the cutest ever!! I first met this family a few years back when the older girl was only 3 months old and now she is 4! I am just in awe on how what a beautiful little girl she has become. And her little baby sister! I just wanted to take pictures of her all day! What a cutie!!
